Youth. Since the beginning of time men and women alike have been trying to achieve eternal youth, or at least the appearance of it. Through the ages it is one of the things that bonds us as humans. But rather than buying weird hydrating serums created by some mad scientist or the blood of the young, today we’re focusing on everyday things you can do to look younger.
If you engage in proper skin care morning, noon and night then you’re halfway to making your skin look as youthful as possible. The key to looking younger naturally is to think of your skin—all of it, from head to toe—everyday and in everything you do.
So without further ado…
What do you love best about youthful looking skin? The tight supple appearance, right? In order to achieve that look you need to make sure your skin is properly hydrated because dehydrated skin will appear dry and flaky. But there’s also another reason to drink more water, detox. Water will help flush out excess toxins that clog pores and cause breakouts.
Don’t go overboard with your water consumption though. If you think you’re drinking enough water each day, add more fruits and vegetables to your day. They’re packed with water and nutrients.
Most of us only worry about applying sunscreen when it comes to a day at the beach or amusement park, but sun isn’t only damaging then. Protect your skin from premature aging due to sun damage by using skincare products, particularly makeup, that also contain SPF.
Take a more direct stand against too much sun by going the Marilyn or Jackie route with hats and scarves plus sunglasses. It’s a classic combination that always looks sexy and classy while keeping the sun from giving you wrinkles.
Whether you’ve just enjoyed an epic crying jag, ate too many salty foods before bed or you simply suffer from puffy eye syndrome, cold water is the perfect natural antidote. This is a quick and easy way to reduce inflammation that gives you that old puffy look. If you’re short on time let the cold water run for a minute and wet a towel, dabbing or blotting the area. If you have a few minutes wrap an ice cube or two in a towel and let it rest on the puffy area, fifteen seconds on and fifteen off until you start to see results.
Exercise is one of the best ways to give your skin that natural, youthful glow. Not only does sweating act as a natural detox to flush the toxins in your skin but it helps circulate oxygen and nutrients that make the skin glow. Then there’s the absolute must to looking younger and healthier—increased collagen production which exercise does.
Finally, exercise alleviates stress which will help you get rid of fine lines, grey hairs and sagging skin.
I know what you’re thinking but in addition to all the other, really great reasons to have more sex, there are also skin care reasons. Like exercise, frequent sex (three times a week or more) boosts the production of human growth hormone which leaves skin looking younger. And it’s cheaper than HGH injections!
Most of don’t get nearly enough sleep. Between long commutes to and from work, longer days than ever and general stress, sleep is harder to come by than a million bucks. But it’s essential to looking young and healthy.
When we don’t get enough sleep our bodies increase cortisol production which is responsible for skin damage and increased fat storage. Fatigue produces puffy eyes that make you look older than you need to, but getting six to eight hours of sleep a night will help the body produce growth hormones that leave skin looking elastic and supple.
When and where you can, prioritize getting enough sleep each night.
