Faking It: A good night’s sleep

Whatever your reason for not getting a full 8 hours; working late, teething baby, partying with the girls, date night… you get the idea. There are a million reasons why you aren’t getting your zzzz’s on a nightly basis.

Waking up looking like a cast member from “Night of the Living Dead” is a literal nightmare to wake to. Popping a couple Ibuprofen and downing a cup of black coffee followed by a quick dip in the tub might get you back to 80%. But getting that last little bit to being a complete human takes a bit more skill and a couple of products to back us up.

Unfortunately, we can’t all have MUA to that stars Lisa Eldridge on call 24/7 to get us out of our rut. Luckily though, we’ve rounded up 7 of the top skincare and beauty tricks you need to fake a well-rested night’s sleep.

Face Mask

First thing in the morning while you’re sipping on your morning coffee -- desperately trying to wake-up, apply a hydrating face mask and let it soak in for at least 10 minutes. Waking up tired often means dull, lifeless looking skin that’s in desperate need of water. A good hydration mask, like our Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask will flood your skin with moisture and vitamins, bringing it back to life.

Eye Cream

An absolute must to prep your eyes and give them the nourishment they are craving! To increase the benefit, keep your eye cream in the refrigerator. The combo of the cold and the antioxidants in the cream will quickly reduce under eye puffiness, waking up your eyes!

We love our True Glow Eye Cream for this. It’s formulated with the queen of the antioxidants, astaxanthin. It’s 600x more powerful than vitamin C and exactly what the dermatologist ordered to repair and refresh your under eyes, stat!

We gave our resident MUA a call for advice on this one. For puffiness, go with a concealer that matches your skin tone. Going too light can actually accentuate the puffiness, which is the exact opposite of what we’re going for here.

For under-eye darkness, start with a salmon or peach toned corrector to counteract the blue discoloration. Then follow with a skin tone concealer on top to blend everything together. Our favorites are Bobbi Brown’s Corrector and NARS Creamy Concealer. Follow with a touch of translucent powder to seal everything in and voila! Bye bye sleepy under-eyes!

Eyelash Curler & Mascara

To create big awake looking eyes the hands down winner is a good eye lash curler and several coats of mascara. Curling your lashes is essential! Its lifts the eyes, instantly giving you that young fresh faced look. Add a couple of coats of mascara to further enhance your eyes and create a fluttery lash look.

Bold Lip

Distract from the tired eyes with a bold lip. A bold lip will instantly draw attention away from those tired eyes and directly to your mouth. Choose a vibrant attention grabbing hue for the most impact and a creamy formulation to keep lips hydrated. Match the season by trying a poppy color for spring, a bold orange for summer, a sultry mauve for fall, or a lusty cabernet in the winter.

Try and go the prevention route if you can and prep with good skincare! ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remove your makeup before bedtime and apply a healthy dose of moisturizer. Use a toner to lock in moisture and soothe tired skin the night before.

We love to keep our Fresh Mist Calming Toner with us for at night and for touch-ups during the daytime. A couple quick spritzes and your skin will take on a whole new fresh appearance.

BIG Sunglasses

Don’t have time for any of this?  Not to worry, take a cue from the glamorous Audrey Hepburn and invest in a pair of massive sunglasses to cover the damage.
