5 Tips for Healthy Skin

We all want skin so healthy it glows but we don't always have the time or the pocket book for for it. Does that mean we’re all doomed to dull, lifeless skin or is there any hope for the eternally busy penny pincher? Listen carefully, there is hope.

Tips for healthy skin don’t always mean a lengthy nighttime facial process that takes hours on end. There are some things we should all do, even if you don’t wear a drop of makeup or if you have clear skin. Why? Because skin care isn’t just about a lack of pimples or skin that makes you look years younger. That whole young thing is just a bonus anyway.

You don’t have to be a girly girl to appreciate the benefits of proper skin care. All you need to do is have proper daily skin care and a healthy lifestyle.

Add these tips to your life for healthy skin.

Protect Against The Sun

You probably already know this but extended periods of time in the sun are not healthy for you or your skin. Remember that we’re not just talking about your face and neck, but also your hands and legs, feet and every other inch of your body. Protect your skin from the sun and you can avoid all kinds of skin problems like age spots, wrinkles, perpetually dry skin and worst of all, skin cancer.

The best way to your skin from the sun is to use sunscreen. Whether you’re a pale English rose or smooth brown skinned babe, sunscreen is a must. All skin types, colors and tones can get skin cancer so take this small steps by purchasing a minimum SPF of 20. Take it a step further and use a lip balm and even foundation that has sunscreen in it!

If you spend a lot of time outdoors try to find shade when the sun’s rays are strongest and wear clothes that protect your skin. Wide-brimmed hats, long sleeves, pants and lightweight cotton are all effective protection to protect you from harmful rays.

Quit The Cancer Sticks

In addition to giving you an awful constant cough, lung disease and yellow teeth, smoking cigarettes does a real number on your body and skin.

When you smoke it narrows the blood vessels on the skin’s outermost layers which decreases the flow of blood. Combined they steal all the nutrients and oxygen from the skin that it needs to look and feel its best.

The factors that make skin look so young and firm, collagen and elastin, are damaged by smoking. And that sucking motion when you inhale? Well that move is a great way for wrinkles to form around your mouth and eyes.

If you want healthy skin, quit smoking now and reverse any damage that's already been done.

Eat Healthy Everyday

When people tell you to eat healthy it isn’t always about the numbers on the scale, or the pesticides in your food or even how animals are raised on big farms. Sometimes eating healthy is about one thing, being healthy. That’s why a healthy diet is so essential to weight loss, a good night’s sleep and to healthy skin.

The best place to start for healthy skin is, fruits and vegetables. They are packed with vitamins and minerals plus another essential that all skin needs for good health. Water.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you can just toss out all of your skin care products, but many of the essential nutrients you need for good skin health are found in things like lemons, kale, carrots and blueberries.

Treat Your Skin Like A Queen

Remember those stories of queens bathing in nothing but milk and rose petals? Well that’s how you should be treating your skin, well not literally. Don’t use strong scented soaps with lots of harsh chemicals. Find lighter or even un-scented soaps, body washes and skin cleansers. If the scent or the feel is too harsh you might be getting rid of essential oils your skin needs for good health.

Other steps you can take to give your skin the Cleopatra treatment:

  • Moisturize after each time you wash your face.
  • Wash you skin and face everyday.
  • Keep skin clean and pat it dry rather than rub harshly.

Take It Easy

When you feel stressed what do you do? Drink? Binge eat? Snack? Those are just three vices that allow us to unwind after a long day at work, a bad breakup or you know, life. Managing your stress is one of the best ways to keep your skin happy and healthy for longer.

Whatever you need to do to feel less stress, you should. Take up yoga or kickboxing, don’t set impossible daily goals and eat healthy foods for a start. Stress can trigger skin breakouts and in some cases hives. Watch just how much difference an extra hour of sleep or brisk run will make on your appearance.

These may not all be easy tips for  healthy skin but they are simple and inexpensive, a small price to pay for healthy, glowing and youthful skin.
